How to Change Your Mood Instantly

Feb 28, 2023

Have you ever been in a funk and felt like no matter what you did, you just couldn't shake it? If you're nodding your head "yes", then today's post is for you. I'm going to share some of my favorite tips on how to change your mood instantly. But before we dive in, let's first explore the topic of mood a bit further.

Mood is our emotional state at any given time and can be positive (happy, hopeful, excited) or negative (sad, anxious, angry). Our moods are caused by a combination of factors including genetics, environment, stress levels, and physical health. Many times we can't control our moods - they just happen. But there are things we can do to help improve our mood when it starts to sink.

So whether you're feeling blah or down in the dumps, try out these tips next time and see if they help turn that frown upside down!

Change what you're focused on.

When it comes to improving your mood, sometimes all it takes is focus. We all have days where we feel less inspired, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay in a funk! By shifting what you’re focused on, you can change your mood in a jiffy. Start by recognizing the emotions you’re feeling and why – this way, you can pinpoint what adjustments to make. From there, focus on giving yourself compassion and working through any roadblocks with self-talk that motivates your mind. Instead of letting bad vibes linger over your day, shift the focus onto something more productive and uplifting – engaging in activities like reading or taking a walk can be quite soothing too!

So let go of gloominess and focus on making the best out of any situation. You got this!

Change your posture - sit up straight, or stand up and stretch, exercise.

It's amazing how just a slight tweak to our posture can immediately put us into a better mood. If you're feeling down, try standing up tall, breathing deeply and consciously dropping your shoulders back and down. This will create space in your lungs and free some of the tension that might be stored in your chest. Exercising can also help you get out of a funk - even if it's something as simple as taking a brief walk outside - give yourself that fresh air to clear your head and boost the oxygen to fuel your mood!

Smile for 60 seconds straight. Even if you don't feel like it, the act of smiling can help to improve your mood.

It may seem like an impossible task, but smile for 60 seconds straight – it could be one of the best decisions you make all day! Smiling is a simple act that can have major effects on our attitude and overall mood. So why not give it a try? Studies have shown that even faking a smile can make us feel more positive, while genuine smiles are even more powerful – they’re contagious! So smile away and before you know it, those around you might be starting to smile too. A few moments of smiling can often be enough to lift the spirits and put you in a better mood.

Give yourself 60 seconds to smile and feel the power of this most basic of expressions – it just might change your day!

Get into a state of deep gratitude. When you're deeply grateful, it's impossible to feel any negative state.

If you want to get into a state of deep gratitude, it's all about getting creative. Gratitude can be found in even the most mundane things - from a nice cup of tea to a beautiful sunrise. So, take time to really appreciate the small things. Try visualizing your gratitude and seeing it in color; or feeling it with your entire body; or hearing it with words in your mind. It may sound a bit 'woo' but sometimes you have to will gratitude into existence! Allowing yourself to let go and connect with gratitude can be liberating and set you up for an unstoppable good mood.

Changing your mood isn't an easy task, but it's possible! Taking a few moments to consciously shift your focus can make a world of difference. By tweaking the way you carry yourself with simple steps such as sitting up straight, exercising or smiling for 60 seconds - it can bring an immediate boost to your overall outlook. If that doesn't shake things up, don't be afraid to call on the power of a deep sense of gratitude - it can be totally transforming. It's time to enjoy life and tackle any challenges with enthusiasm and positivity.

You hold the power to change your mood so why not try one of these tips the next time you're in a funk? Which one will you try first?

Good luck!
